The Concept
Totes is a mobile application that links you to truck drivers in your geographic region, upon request, using real-time GPS information. These trucks come to your location within minutes, and can be used to help you move or haul anything. New and used furniture, antiques, appliances, outdoor goods, industrial equipment, machine parts, and yard waste are a few examples of the items that totes can provide a fast and easy transportation solution for.
This innovative approach of combining the capabilities of mobile technology with a well established service industry has created some of the most groundbreaking changes to how people commute in urban areas. At totes, we aim to similarly revolutionize how people transport goods. Traditionally, you would either need to know someone with a truck, or you would have to rent one. The former being inconvenient, and the latter being a complete hassle. Totes solves that by requiring no more from you than the click of a few buttons, and entering some information about what it is that you would like moved and where. Best of all, you only pay for the 1-way trip to your destination, making this a more affordable approach than renting a truck yourself.

Our Inspiration
It is said that necessity is the mother of invention. Well, we believe that inconvenience is the mother of improvement. People typically don't realize how lousy our methods can be, and we tend to accept the status quo with little scrutiny. Every once in a while, however, we stop and think "there has to be a better way to do this", and the inherent inefficiencies in a process begin to emerge. That simple thought is at the heart of almost all of the technological transformations that the world is witnessing today. Our story is no different.
Totes was conceived by our founder and CEO, Nick, when his refrigerator broke down and he needed a fast, affordable replacement. He went on his local classifieds, found a great deal, and went straight there to finalize his purchase. It didn't take long before Nick realized the fridge wouldn't fit in his little car, and pushing it 4 miles home was hardly an option. Nick considered renting a truck, as would anyone, but quickly realized how inconvenient, expensive, and time-consuming that process would be. Instead, he did what any rational person would: flag down a random pickup truck driver on the street, and offer him $20 for a quick delivery, which actually worked out perfectly.
From this experience, Nick noticed a potential for improving how we do something, while taking advantage of the technological capabilities at our finger tips. He gathered a team, and embarked on building totes, the mobile app to transport goods.
